In a collaboration that brings together centuries of craftsmanship and generations of creativity, Zildjian and Crayola have unveiled a colourful new drumstick and practice pad set designed for young, aspiring drummers.

The product includes six drumsticks, each painted in a different Crayola colour: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet, alongside a bright, cartoon-style practice pad featuring the Crayon Crew Band. Everything in the set is tailored for children: the sticks are lighter and shorter than standard models, making them easy to hold and play with.

“This is really about giving kids a chance to explore music in a way that feels natural and fun,” said a Zildjian spokesperson. “A lot of children already tap out rhythms on tables or pots and pans. We just wanted to give them real instruments that match that instinct.”

Made with child-safe materials and packaged in a recycled box inspired by Crayola’s iconic crayon design, the set blends Zildjian’s musical expertise with Crayola’s playful aesthetic. It’s designed not just as a toy, but as an introduction to rhythm, creativity, and self-expression.

Educators and music therapists have long recognised the benefits of percussion for young children. Tapping a beat helps develop hand-eye coordination, supports emotional regulation, and gives children a way to express themselves. This kit encourages all of that through simple, approachable tools.

“There’s something magical about a child discovering they can make music,” said a music teacher who tested the product with students. “It’s empowering. They hear the sound, realise it came from them, and you see their face light up.”

For parents, the appeal goes beyond the product itself. In a time when many families are seeking ways to reduce screen time, this set offers an interactive, hands-on alternative. The experience of making noise, then turning that noise into rhythm, can become a shared moment between parent and child.

The Zildjian x Crayola set is now available through Zildjian’s website and selected retailers. Early response from families has been enthusiastic, with many saying the kit sparked spontaneous jam sessions and new interest in music.

While the collaboration may seem unlikely on the surface, both brands say it makes perfect sense. Zildjian brings centuries of percussion heritage; Crayola brings a deep understanding of how children play and create.

“This set is about joy, plain and simple,” said a Crayola representative. “It’s about colour, sound, and imagination: all coming together in a way that invites children to make something of their own.”
