For decades, the drumming of Stan Lynch  laid the foundation for some of rock’s most enduring anthems. As a founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, he helped define an era, shaping a sound that still resonates with generations of fans. But after twenty years of relentless touring and recording, Lynch stepped away from the spotlight, finding a new rhythm on the other side of the glass as a producer and songwriter. Now, after years spent crafting hits for legends like the Eagles, Don Henley, and Ringo Starr, he’s returning to where it all began—behind the drum kit, with a brand-new band: The Speaker Wars.

The project started as a creative spark between Lynch and Texas singer-songwriter Jon Christopher Davis. The two met in Nashville, where Davis was gathering songs for a solo album. But as the music took shape, it became clear that these songs weren’t meant for just one voice. Instead of a solo venture, they formed a band, pulling in guitarist Jay Michael Smith, bassist Brian Patterson, percussionist Steve Ritter, and keyboardist Jay Brown. The result was something bigger than either had anticipated—an entirely new sound, rooted in rock but infused with years of collective experience.

To bring their vision to life, the newly assembled group headed to 5M Studios in Denton, Texas, with co-producer Mike Pisterzi. The sessions were electric, capturing the essence of seasoned musicians who had nothing to prove but everything to say. The finished album caught the attention of Frontiers Records, leading to a record deal and a spring release date. On May 30th, The Speaker Wars will officially introduce themselves to the world.

For Stan Lynch, this return to performing feels both natural and exhilarating. After decades of writing, producing, and mentoring other artists, stepping back into a band dynamic is a full-circle moment. He describes it as slipping into an old but beloved role—one that never truly left him. The chemistry within The Speaker Wars is palpable, a testament to the band’s collective musicianship and shared passion for creating something fresh.

While the album remains under wraps, anticipation is building. The Speaker Wars promise a sound that blends rock nostalgia with a modern edge, drawing from the influences that shaped their individual careers while pushing into new creative territory. For Lynch, it’s not just about making music—it’s about rediscovering the thrill of playing live, of locking into a groove with a band that just clicks.

As the countdown to the debut album begins, one thing is certain: The Speaker Wars are ready to make some noise.
